Acupuncture & Functional Medicine FAQ's
Is acupuncture and Chinese Medicine appropriate for my condition?
Yes. Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine can support a wide range of health concerns. From pain, stress, and sleep issues to digestive, hormonal, and emotional imbalances. Treatments are tailored to address both your symptoms and their root causes, making this approach beneficial for most people seeking supportive, natural care.
Are there any side effects from acupuncture?
Side effects are rare and generally very mild. You may notice slight redness, a tiny bruise, or mild soreness at the needle site that resolves quickly. Occasionally, patients feel relaxed or slightly tired after treatment, this is a normal sign that your body is responding. Most people leave feeling calm, centered, and refreshed.
Does acupuncture hurt? Is it safe?
Most patients find acupuncture to be very comfortable. The needles are extremely thin, about the width of a human hair, and insertion is typically painless. You may feel a light tingling, heaviness, or warmth that quickly subsides, followed by a deep sense of relaxation. When performed by a licensed acupuncturist, acupuncture is extremely safe. I use only sterile, single-use needles, and every treatment follows the highest standards of hygiene and safety.
Is Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine appropriate for my condition?
Yes. Acupuncture and Chinese medicine can be helpful for a wide range of conditions because they focus on supporting the body’s ability to heal and function properly. From the Chinese medicine perspective, we look at patterns in your pulse, tongue, and symptoms to understand how your body is responding. Functional medicine complements this by using modern lab testing and physiology to identify what’s happening on a deeper level. Together, these approaches provide a complete picture
How soon will I start to feel better?
That depends on your health condition, how long you’ve had it, and your overall lifestyle. Some patients notice improvements after just a few treatments, while deeper, chronic issues often require several weeks or months of consistent care.
Can you order lab tests like a regular medical doctor?
Yes. As part of my Functional Medicine services, I can order comprehensive blood panels and specialty tests (such as hormone, gut, or micronutrient assessments) through accredited labs. Results are reviewed in detail with you, and a personalized plan is created based on your findings.
Is herbal medicine safe & how are Chinese herbs administered?
Herbs are completely safe. I use only high-quality, professionally sourced herbs from reputable suppliers that adhere to strict purity and safety standards. Herbal prescriptions are customized for each patient and are designed to work gently and effectively with your body. Herbs may be prescribed as granules, tablets, tinctures, or traditional teas, depending on your needs and preferences. They’re easy to take and often used for short courses of treatment to restore balance or support long-term health goals.
Can Chinese Medicine be used in conjunction with Western medicine?
Absolutely. Acupuncture and herbal medicine can safely complement most Western medical treatments. I often work with patients who are also seeing their primary care doctor or specialist. Chinese medicine can enhance the effects of conventional care and may help reduce side effects from certain medications or procedures.
